AT&T Unfairly Influenced ‘American Idol’ Results Toward Kris Allen?

May 27, 2009

US (ChattahBox) — Some fans are crying foul on the American Idol final results saying Kris Allen may have gained an unfair boost from the shows biggest corporate sponsor AT&T, who gave a sector of his fans some phones for free text-messaging services.

Before going into details of this ‘potential scandal’ that the network is absolutely going to ignore, it strikes me that  text voting being open only to AT&T subscribers may not favor any particular contestant but it still exclusionary.  Maybe only viewers that drink Mountain Dew can vote too?

Anyway representatives of AT&T, provided the free text-messaging services at two parties organized by fans of Kris Allen in Arkansas (his hometown), after the final performance episode of “American Idol” last week, according to the company and people at the events. To compound the apparent favoritism, the AT&T reps gave instructions on how to send 10 or more text messages at the press of a single button, known as power texts to all the Allen fans at the party. Too bad that power texting appears to be in violation of “American Idol” voting rules. The show broadcasts an on-screen statement at the end of each episode warning that blocks of votes cast using “technical enhancements” that unfairly influence the outcome of voting can be thrown out.  I guess the key term is ‘can be’. There appears to have been no similar efforts to provide free texting services to supporters of Adam Lambert, who finished as the runner-up to  Kris Allen, which is beside the point really.  Officials of Fox Broadcasting are now busily burying their collective heads in the sand hoping this will all go away.

This reminds me of Chris Daughtrey. He should have won hands down. Adam Lambert should have won hands down. I can not believe he didn’t. He would have made them a lot of money. Chris is marketable because he is the nice boy next door sort of guy. Adam is the hard rocker. How many hard rockers have won American Idol? Looking back NONE>>>>>>> I think the judges should be able to over ride America because really they know which one will do the best. They were shocked as well…. Should have been Adam hands down.

I think being on the front of a popular magaizne got adam more votes than this text scandal. Adam should be under fire just as much.

Can’t wait to hear Adam as lead singer for a hot rock band. Those studio versions of his performances are awful and are missing the gut wrenching emotion he puts into his interpretation of a song. Just my opinion, Adam is the best. Ring of Fire blew me away as did Mad World. But he does great with Led Zeppelin, Queen, Cook and just about anything he sings. Doesn’t matter who won. Several of the top contestants will become very successful but I’m not sure one of them will be Kris Allen.
