Poll finds Jon Stewart Is America’s Most Trusted Newsman

July 23, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Though he says himself his show nor his channel purports to be anything other than satire and comedy, his viewers say otherwise. In an online poll conducted by Time Magazine, The Daily Show‘s Jon Stewart has been selected,  as America’s Most Trusted Newscaster, post Walter Cronkite that is. Matched up against Brian Williams, Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson, Stewart prevailed with 44 percent of the vote.  Brian Williams drew the second largest percentage of votes, with 29 percent. Gibson and Couric finished third and fourth, respectively, with 19 and 7 percent of the vote.  Of course polls like these don’t mean a lot but I doubt the wonderfully talented Stewart would have been a match for former evening news anchors Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings and Dan Rather in their heyday.
