Colbert Report Takes Aim at Creationism theme park caught in tax dispute (Video)

August 8, 2009

(ChattahBox) — The Colbert Report took its funny aim (video below) at Dinosaur Adventure Land, a creationist theme park in Pensacola, Florida, that has been seized by the government to satisfy nearly half a million dollars owed by its owners to the IRS.  The theme park was developed by biblical creation teacher and lecturer, Kent Hovind, who also founded Creation Science Evangelism. Hovind, known affectionately as “Dr. Dino,” however, now is living in a small federal prison cell in South Carolina, serving a 10-year sentence for failing to collect and pay withholding taxes, obstructing tax laws and other related charges. His wife, Jo, the bookkeeper for the Hovinds’ Creation Science Evangelism ministry in Pensacola, was convicted of evading bank-reporting requirements and began serving a one-year sentence in January at a minimum security prison camp in Florida. Since we can’t all just agree that the universe, earth, dinosaurs, and humans were created 6000 years ago, Hovind’s followers contend he was prosecuted because of his religious convictions and exposing what he calls “the big lie of evolution. The theme park property will be divided up into its nine constituent properties and sold in pieces until the debt is paid.
