Ellen DeGeneres named as American Idol’s fourth judge

September 10, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Comedian Ellen DeGeneres, a self-described longtime fan of American Idol, will join the reality singing competition as the fourth judge. The Daytime Emmy-winning talk-show host who admittedly has no formal music experience, just a passion for tunes (and dancing), will join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardiin, for the show’s upcoming ninth season, first appearing during the semifinal rounds. DeGeneres says she’s watched the show from the beginning. As a fan, “getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I’ll save from not having to text in my vote,” she said in a statement on Wednesday night. DeGeneres will replace Paula Abdul, who left the show amid swirling rumors that she was offended by the relative meager size of her salary compared to her peers Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest. DeGeneres admits that she has fewer music-industry credentials than her judging peers, but “hopefully I’m the people’s point of view, because I’m just like you. I sit at home and I watch it,” she said on her syndicated talk show Thursday.

I like Ellen but I’m not sure she’s the best choice for this job

I, as a musician, don’t feel she, Ellen, is a good replacement for Paula.

If American Idol keep Ellen as a judge they will loose my wife and forever. What a foolish choice for the producers to make …… Wake up and smell the coffee. You will be loosing a lot of fans if you keep her as a judge ……. GOOD LUCK … NOT

I know Ellen is personable and funny but AI will not be the same without Paula.

Ellen would be a great replacement for PA…the labels suing her is just another sign of the times…its so tough for labels to make money that they are suing everyone who uses music without paperwork…
