Four Teens Charged In Taped Beating Death

September 29, 2009

Illinois (ChattahBox) – Four teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a brutal beating that killed 16-year-old honors student, Derrion Albert, was caught on a cell phone video.

Silvonus Shannon, 19; Eric Carson, 16; Eugene Riley, 18; and Eugene Bailey, 18, have been arrested for the student’s murder, and three more boys are being sought in connection to the beating that led to the death of the other high school student.

The video made it;s way onto YouTube, which shows a group of boys repeatedly kicking, punching, and stomping on Derrion. (The video can be viewed here, viewer discretion strongly advised.)

Three of the four are being held without bail pending trial, while the last is set to have a bail hearing this afternoon. It is unlikely bail will be set.

The fight was caused by a disagreement between two groups that come from two different areas of the city, though it wasn’t actually gang related. It led to a shooting outside the school early Thursday.

“It was a brutal and violent attack in which the victim was merely a bystander,” Jodi Peterson, the Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney.

First, I would like to start off saying the hood has been this way since forever . It’s
unfortunate that it took such a tragedy to happen for people to realize that things are way out of control .We must improve society before it’s to late. To those who think they got it all figured out you don’t. Derrion was an honor roll student who deserved to still be here. While, others choose to take their life for granted. Be judgemental once you’ve walked in our shoes.
