Steve Martin And Alec Baldwin To Co-Host Academy Awards

November 4, 2009

(ChattahBox) — The 82nd annual Academy Awards has found ‘Two wild and crazy guys’ to co-host the Oscars, in Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.  Martin has hosted the show twice before and Baldwin is a first-timer.

Martin, who hosted the 73rd and 75th Oscar ceremony, said in a statement: “I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin.”

“I don’t play the banjo but I am thrilled to be hosting the Oscars — it’s the opportunity of a lifetime,” said movie buff Baldwin in a statement.

The two will be building their chemistry together, appearing in director Nancy Meyers’ December comedy “It’s Complicated” alongside perennial Oscar favorite Meryl Streep.

It was just a mere few days ago, that Hugh Jackman turned down the chance to host the 2010 Oscar show. Jackman who was widely praised for bringing back music and dance to last year’s ceremony may take on the master of ceremonies role in the future, but reportedly does not want to oversee the event for two years in a row. With Ricky Gervais already snagged by the Golden Globes for NBC, Martin and Baldwin were ABC and the academy’s choice. Ironically both men are well-known as the two most frequent hosts of NBC’s late-night franchise, “Saturday Night Live.” And Baldwin is a perennial Emmy winner for playing evil NBC suit Jack Donaghy on NBC’s ratings-starved, critically heralded “30 Rock.”

The 82nd Academy Awards ceremony, to be held March 7, 2010.
