(ChattahBox)—Conan O’Brien kicked off his “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On TV Tour” last night in the college town of Eugene Oregon, to a packed crowd of 2,500 screaming Team CoCo fans. The flame orange-haired O’Brien kept the appreciative audience entertained with bits made popular on Late Night, such as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, who quipped “Usually you have to go to a Dave Matthews Band concert to see this many white people.” And Conan made use of his mad guitar skills, with a tongue-in-cheek version of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.”

Billed as a “Night of Music, Comedy, Hugging and the Occasional Awkward Silence” tour, it delivered on all counts, except for the awkward moments, according to the reviews.

Conan, donned a variety of over-the-top costumes, including a wild purple leather suit. The pompadoured comedian quipped that he missed the applause and he made reference to his new comedy gig on TBS, saying: “You may have heard: I got a new job,” he told the 2,500 capacity crowd, joking he’d be the new assistant manager at Banana Republic. “I’ll be in the corduroy section.”

His version of “I Will Survive,” included the lines: “At first I was afraid, I was petrified. I didn’t know if I could make it without a talk show by my side. And I spent oh so many nights thinking how they did me wrong, but I grew strong and my beard grew very long…”

Describing his dark days after losing “The Tonight Show” Conan said, “I hung around the house eating frosting from a jar — I got really into Gossip Girl.”

Besides Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, the” Masturbating Bear” and the “Walker, Texas Ranger Lever” made appearances, renamed to avoid any intellectual property battles with his former employer, NBC. The Bear became the “Self-Pleasuring Panda” and the Texas Ranger Lever, became the “Chuck Norris Rural Policeman Handle.”

Conan took some jabs at NBC, saying “Believe it or not, this is the first time anyone’s ever paid to see me. They’ve paid to make me go away….”
