Conan ‘Flirts’ With NBC’s No-Snark Ban in 60 Minutes Interview

April 28, 2010

(ChattahBox)—The flame-haired comedian Conan O’Brien, high on the success of his live tour and upcoming TBS show, will finally break his silence, after leaving “The Tonight Show” in a “60 Minutes” sit-down Sunday night. Conan’s NBC exit contract banned him from the boob tube, until after May 1 and he is not wasting any time.

During the interview, correspondent Steve Kroft will show clips from Conan’s “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour” and talk about the pompadoured comedian’s new late night show on TBS, which begins airing in November.

And about that bitter dispute with NBC and Jay Leno? Kroft told The NY Times’ Media Coder that Conan “flirts” with NBC’s contractual ban on dissing Leno and the network.

Because Conan can’t appear on television at all, until Sunday, “60 Minutes” will have to think out of the box when promoting the upcoming interview. “I think we’ll just show me talking to him and have to blank his face out,” Kroft said.

Team CoCo, no doubt, will be happy to launch an online promotion of Conan’s first television appearance since leaving “The Tonight Show” in January.
