Anderson Cooper Leaving CNN, Because of Colleagues’ Jealousy?

July 1, 2010

(ChattahBox)—Well, this is all gossipy and behind the scenes tripe sourced on anonymous background quotes, but still, an exit by Anderson Cooper would be a huge loss to CNN. According to, Cooper’s disappointment with his continued low ratings, despite churning out stellar on-the-scene reporting in Haiti and the Gulf, has led him to consider not renewing his CNN contract when it expires next year.

The beleaguered cable news station, with falling ratings, has prompted management to make some drastic hit or miss changes, mostly misses. So far, Campbell Brown and Larry King have fallen victim to rating woes and are leaving the station in the fall.

According to TheWrap, the problems at CNN have led to lots of backbiting and palace intrigue, most of it directed towards Cooper’s travel:

“Speaking on background, one CNN on-air personality told TheWrap that most of the anchors were jealous that Anderson Cooper sucked up resources by going to Haiti and the Gulf of Mexico, leaving them unable to build their profiles at the network.”

And Cooper is said to be frustrated with his consistently low ratings:

“Cooper has been frustrated that despite dangerous forays into disaster zones like Haiti, his ratings remain in the doldrums. And a high-level CNN staffer told TheWrap that Cooper is frequently in conflict with his executive producer David Doss.”

Whatever the case, if Cooper does indeed leave CNN for greener pastures, with the recent exit of Christiane Amanpour, to host ABC’s “This Week,” he would be the second top-notch journalist to leave the network.

CNN is denying the reports of Cooper’s imminent exit. “CNN will continue to do great journalism and will leave meaningless conjecture to The Wrap,” said a network spokesperson.

And who has CNN hired of late? Controversial right-wing RedState blogger Erick Erickson, known for his violent-infused inflammatory rhetoric, such as calling former Supreme Court Justice David Souter a “goat fucking child molester,” referring to our First Lady Michelle Obama, as a “marxist harpy wife,” referring to Obama’s Nobel Peace prize, as an “affirmative action quota” and advocating Americans to beat state lawmakers “to a bloody pulp.”

Oh, and Erickson also jumped on the right wing’s U.S. census paranoia by declaring he would “Pull out my wife’s shotgun,” to menace census workers.

Good move CNN.

Erickson is a member of the city council in my city in Middle GA. He is, and has always been, bad news. CNN wasted its’ money when it hired him. Wait and see how stupid and partisan his commentary continues to be. He’s a NUT.
