Wyclef Jean is Ineligible for Haiti Presidential Run

August 21, 2010

(ChattahBox) – (HMG) – Looks like Wyclef Jean is not going to be running in Haiti’s presidential election in November. A day after an electoral official said, the celebrity singer-songwriter did not fully meet the requirements, including the fact that he doesn’t have a primary residence in Haiti, it’s been made official. Jean told CNN’s Larry King on Thursday: “I wanted to clarify a rumor on Reuters that there’s a list of candidates that came out and that (my) name isn’t on it.” “That’s not true. The list is supposed to come out tomorrow … It’s looking good for us.” But while challenging the report, Jean also entertained the possibility that he will be declared ineligible to run, telling King he would continue organizing Haiti’s youth to push for education reform. “Haiti’s constitution says that all kids should have the privilege of a free education, and that’s something we’ll push for whether we make it or not,” he said. Well that is what he’ll have to do, because he’s been deemed ineligible by Haiti’s provisional electoral council to run in the presidential election there in November. Jean so far has not made an official comment to this news.
