The reason for the criticism of Chantix is due to side effects it causes such as irregular heart function, seizures, etc. It has been linked to over 100 accidents thus far. The FAA has even gone as far as to ban pilots and air traffic controllers from using it.

Pfizer believes it can still save the anti-smoking drug though, and is going to run ads in major newspapers across the U.S. showing the benefits and risks of the drug.

Pfizer has stated that the risks associated with Chantix have been documented in the past, and if used properly the drug is beneficial.

The FDA has added warnings to Chantix this year including depression and suicidal thoughts, but Pfizer believes they can still save it and change the public perception of the drug.

How many lives have to be ruined before Chantix is stopped? Chantix ruined my life, causing so far permanent and very painful side effects. For 18 months I have been in pain from neck to ankles every day. Muscle and joint pain and weakness, makes it difficult to walk. This drug should never have been released. And I only took it for 3 months. If I would have quit smoking using another method, or didn’t quit at all, I would not be in pain every minute of every day. They stole my life from me…..for what? To make a lousy $300. off of me?
