The Department of Health has come out and stated that 26% of adults in NYC are infected with Herpes Simplex Virus-2, the virus which leads to genital herpes.New York (ChattahBox) – The Department of Health has come out and stated that 26% of adults in NYC are infected with Herpes Simplex Virus-2, the virus which leads to genital herpes.

The virus could lend itself to the added spread of HIV, and could also impact newborns, causing a major health problem.

The virus was most common among women, black people, and gay men. It impacted 26% of the population of adults in total.

The sexually transmitted virus is known for its symptoms such as genital ulcers and sores.

Those with genital herpes face twice the risk of contracting HIV.

The study on genital herpes in NYC has been published in the journal Sexually Transmitted Disease.
