The cells of monkeys are used to make the vaccine rather than chicken eggs, making it much quicker to produce in the event of an H5N1 bird flu pandemic.

The study on the new vaccine included 275 people. Out of all of those who received the new two-dose vaccine, 76% of those involved were still clear from the bird flu after 21 days.

In the event of a pandemic it may prove more efficient to stockpile this new vaccine rather than the one from chicken eggs.
