AMA Report Card Rates Health Insurers, Reveals Wasted Money

The American Medical Association has released the first National Health Insurer Report Card, rating health insurers..Boston (ChattahBox) – The American Medical Association has released the first National Health Insurer Report Card, rating health insurers.

The National Health Insurer Report Card has been issued on June 16th by the AMA and the Cure for Claims.

The study looked closely at 7 private health insurance companies including Aetna, Conventry Health Care, UnitedHealthcare, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shielf, CIGNA Corp. Humana Inc., and Health Net. Inc, as well as Medicare.

In total, over 3 million claims were looked at in the study to make up the report card, looking closely at the cost of claims processing to doctors.

What they found was that over $200 billion is wasted every year by health insurers. The wasted money is due to the inefficient processing of claims.

Coming in dead last in the rankings was UnitedHealthcare, as they had the lowest rate of compliance in terms of doctor contracts at 62%, compared to 71% for Aetna and 98% for Medicare.
