FDA Adds Warnings Label To Anti-Psychotic Drugs

June 17, 2008

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has ordered new warning labels anti-psychotic drugs aimed at the elderly..New York (ChattahBox) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has ordered new warning labels anti-psychotic drugs aimed at the elderly.

The anti-psychotic drugs which are being focused on in the new warnings include Haldol, Mellaril, Thorazine, and Compazine.

Though these medications are not meant for elderly people with dementia, they are often given by doctors to help with agitation, out-of-control behavior, etc.

The FDA has revealed that two new studies have shown that the warnings are greatly needed.

The first study from December 2005 was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

This study revealed that the anti-psychotic drugs increased the risk of death among elderly people.

This was also seen in a June 2007 study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Okay, I just want to start out by saying that I do not believe a drug such as Compazine or it’s affiliates should have ever left the “lab testing” stage. I have received two injections of compazine and one injection of reglan and I have never been so scared or so disappointed in my Government for allowing the FDA to approve these medications.
The term Akathisia is referred to the type of reaction that these drugs give. It is downright terrifying and I don’t believe anyone should have to go through this. I pay my taxes, I work for a living and I vote in every election. I don’t appreciate being used as a lab rat to test these horrible drugs. I believe that these drugs should be taken off of the market and their usage stopped.
