The first positive West Nile virus test has been confirmed in 2008 in the state of Illinois.. ..Boston (ChattahBox) – The first positive West Nile virus test has been confirmed in 2008 in the state of Illinois.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has confirmed that they have gotten back the first positive West Nile virus test of the year.

The test was collected on Monday in Jackson County. This has raised awareness quite a bit already in the state as people are being told to wear long sleeves to protect their skin from the mosquitoes.

Removing standing water and using bug repellent can also help with protection.

Last year, over 100 cases were reported in the state of Illinois, with 4 people dying.
