Rotavirus is currently the leading cause of both diarrhea and vomiting among children and infants in the U.S.

The disease is responsible for sending more than 400,000 children to the doctor each and every year, and causing over 50 deaths a year.

The new Merck vaccine, Rotateq, is apparently highly effective in protecting against the disease.

The CDC has stated that the protection provided by the vaccine is far superior to what they previously estimated.

The vaccine was approved 2006 for kids aged 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months.
