Missouri Rules To Legalize Midwifery

The state of Missouri has had midwifery outlawed for nearly a half-century.  That has all changed though as the Missouri Supreme Court ruled five to two in favor of legalizing midwifery..Washington (ChattahBox) The state of Missouri has had midwifery outlawed for nearly a half-century. That has all changed though as the Missouri Supreme Court ruled five to two in favor of legalizing midwifery.

Before this ruling, anyone who took part in midwifery was placed in jail for up to seven years starting in 1959.

Many in support of midwifery have stated that it is the same thing as them receiving care from an obstetrician, only cheaper.

The Missouri Medical Association has stated this is a step backwards for mothers and their babies in Missouri.
