This week marked the start of the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s 2008 Breast Cancer Symposium.

The new breast cancer screening tool, molecular breast imaging (MBI), was revealed to medical experts during this event.

MBI is being touted as a new tool in fighting breast cancer, and improving detection.

The way the new screening method works revolved around the use of a radiotracer that is injected into the patient.

Once injected, it works by picking out the cancer tissue from the normal tissue.

A study on MBI was done on over 940 women, with 375 of them being screened to compare mammography to MBI.

MBI was able to detect 10 of 13 cancers in 375 patients screened.

This compared to only 3 out of the 13 for mammography.
