Dentist Charged With Dumping Needles Near NJ Beaches

A 59-year old Pennsylvania dentist named Thomas McFarland has been charged with illegally dumping needles and other medical waste..Washington (ChattahBox) – A 59-year old Pennsylvania dentist named Thomas McFarland has been charged with illegally dumping needles and other medical waste.

These needles and medical waste washed up onto the shores of New Jersey beaches, causing them to close.

He confessed to authorities that he did indeed dump a bag of used medical supplies illegally.

The bag contained over 300 needles, 180 cotton swabs, etc..

He faces charges which include illegally disposing of a pollutant and medical waste.

This medical waste washed up on the shore of Avalon beach, forcing the beach to close.

He lives in a summer home across the water from the beach.

Every charge he faces carries a sentence of 5 years in jail.  Fines are likely to total over $100,000.
