Researchers from the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia conducted their research by reviewing the records of 477  breast cancer patients.

They found that out of the patients, 130 had an MRI before surgery.

An MRI was found to not be beneficial, as it simply delayed the treatment for breast cancer patients by three weeks.

They also found that women who had an MRI were 80% more likely to get an mastectomy.

They presented their findings at the American Cancer Society of Clinical Oncology’s Breast Cancer Symposium.
