Insurance claims of 3,600 patients who went through bariatric surgery were compared to another group of obese patients that did not go through the surgery.

Researchers found a big improvement in those who had the surgery, as they saw decreases in levels of sleep apnea, hypertension, diabetes, etc. decrease.

They also stated that in most cases, insurers covered the cost of the surgery over a four-year period, with the cost being around $17,000 to $25,000.

The medical costs for those who went through the surgery was also reported to be, on average, $900 less a year after they received the operation.

This proves that bariatric surgery is truly cost-effective.
