Researchers have known for quite some time that a fat gene does exist.

The fat gene is known as the FTO gene, or fat mass and obesity gene.

Variations of this gene put people at an increased risk of being overweight or obese.

Researchers took DNA samples from 704 healthy Amish adults, average age of 43.6 and split them into two groups.  They had a high activity level group and a low activity level group.

They looked at how exercise would impact the fat gene that they had.

Those in the high activity group, who took part in 3 to 4 hours of moderate exercise each day, were able to burn 900 more calories each day compared to the low activity group.

Researchers stated from this that the key to beating your fat gene is exercise.
