West Nile virus, the mosquito-borne illness, continues to spread across the U.S., reaching virtually every single state.

This this point, the CDC has confirmed 413 cases of West Nile, with five deaths this year alone.

There are things people can do to protect themselves from the virus.

The most obvious thing is to avoid being outdoors between dusk and dawn.

Officials have also stated that people can stay protected by wearing protective clothing that covers up your skin.

Bug spray can also be very useful to protect areas your skin does not cover.

Officials continue to take part in the practice aerial spraying to control the population.

The highest risk is for the elderly, as well as infants.
