Five Leading Scientists Get Lasker Medical Awards

The Lasker Foundation awarded Lasker medical awards to five top scientists......Boston (ChattahBox) – The Lasker Foundation awarded Lasker medical awards to five top scientists.

The scientists who received the awards consisted of a Japanese scientist, three American scientists, and a British scientist.

74-year old Akira Endo of Japan from Biopharm Research Laboratories Inc won the Lasker award for the discovery of the cholesterol drug statins.

74-year old Stanley Falkow of Stanford University won for his work in microbes.

The otehr award was shared by Victor Ambros, 54, from the University of Massachusetts, as well as David Baulcombe, 56, from the University of Cambridge in England, and Gary Ruvkun, 56, of the Massachusetts General Hospital for their work in molecules and genes.

The Albert Lasker Medical Research Awards are the Americans version of the Nobel prize, and have been awarded since 1946.
