Gastric bypass surgery is a very common procedure that people who are obese receive.  It makes a small pouch in your stomach to restrict food intake, and spark weight loss.

People are able to lose weight as they cannot consume as much food.

For the study, researchers looked at 310 patients with an average BMI or 52.

Once a year went by, people lost 60% of their excess body weight on average.

38 of the patients in the study though did not see this weight loss success.

Researchers found that the reason for their weight loss troubles was due to them being diabetics.

People who have diabetes need to take insulin and other drugs.

This has been found to promote the production of fat and high cholesterol.

The study was published in the journal Archives of Surgery.
