For the study, researchers were led by Dongsheng Cai of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and focused on mice who consumed too much food.  The mice were considered to be overeating.

Researchers have found that overeating can impact your brain to the point where it is linked to the development of diabetes, as well as heart disease.

This is due to a compound in the brain known as IKKbeta/NK-kappaB, found in the part of the brain which is linked to metabolism.

A diet high in fat caused this area of the brain to become active, forcing the mice to want more food, and restrict the body from turning food into energy.

The research was published in the journal Cell.
