Drug companies have come out and stated that kids who are age 4 and younger should stay away from over-the-counter cough and cold medicines.........Washington (ChattahBox) – Drug companies have come out and stated that kids who are age 4 and younger should stay away from over-the-counter cough and cold medicines.

The drug companies, represented by the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, have stated that these cough syrups are not intended for kids udner the age of 4.

This comes a week after doctors and consumer advocates stated that the FDA should ban the sale of these OTC cough syrups for kids under the age of 6.

The FDA has yet to make a ruling as to whether or not they will put the ban in place.

It is clear they cause harm though, as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that 7,000 children ages 11 and younger had to go to the ER last year, all due to the cough syrups.
