Many Biological Medicines Now Have Safety Warnings

Dutch researchers have put out a new study which reveals that nearly 25% of all biological medicines approved in the U.S. and Europe have a safety warning tied to them...Washington (ChattahBox) – Dutch researchers have put out a new study which reveals that nearly 25% of all biological medicines approved in the U.S. and Europe have a safety warning tied to them.

This study, led by Thijs Giezen of Utrecht University in the Netherlands, found that 25% of biological medicines approved in the U.S. and Europe now have these safety warnings tied to them.

They found this by looking at 174 biological medicines which were approved in the U.S. or Europe between 1995 and 2007.

By the year 2007, 41 of the medicines, or 24% of them carried a safety warning.

These safety warnings are linked to immune system disorders, infections, among ot her reasons.

The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
