Studies in the past have shown that it is very difficult for people to actually inform their sexual partner that they have an STD.

This information is critical though to stopping the spread of that particular STD, as if the partner does not have the knowledge of being exposed to it, they cannot prevent it.

A new initiative known as inSPOT was started by the San Francisco Department of Public Health and nInternet Sexuality Services.

The idea behind the site, www.inSPOT.com is to allow users to tell their sexual partners, past present or future, of their STD.

They do this in the form of sending out an electronic postcards to them to alert them that they have been exposed to an STD.

The site was recently featured in the journal PLoS Medicine.
