Merck & Co. is the maker of the rotavirus vaccine Rotateq, which has been found to be very effective in helping kids avoid the disease.

Before the vaccine hit the market, 200,000 or so cases of rotavirus were reported in infants each year.

Every day worldwide, 1,500 children were said to have died from the virus.

According to a new report, the number of hospitalizations due to rotavirus has dropped by over 80% since the vaccine was released.

The results were released on Saturday by Irini Daskalaki of Drexel University College of Medicine reported at a meeting of the American Cancer Society of Microbiology and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
