Researchers were led by Marie Gunnarsson from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

The study compared 7,954 patients in Sweden who hwere diagnosed with the disease to another group of 35,000 that were not diagnosed.

Every one of the diagnosed patients were just recently diagnosed when the study had began.

The patients were then followed for a period of 10 yeary and were monitored for heart attacks, deaths from heart disease, etc.

Within those 10 years, those who had rheumatoid arthritis saw their heart attack risk double.

Research will be shown at the American College of Rheumatology’s annual meeting in San Francisco.
