Wyeth is likely to seek FDA approval for their new Prevnar 13 vaccine in early 2009 following positive results from a study..............Washington (ChattahBox) – Wyeth is likely to seek FDA approval for their new Prevnar 13 vaccine in early 2009 following positive results from a study.

Their vaccine Prevnar is given to both infants as well as toddlers and works well by preventing 7 types of streptococcus pneumonia, as well as ear infections, pneumonia.

The vaccine has proven to be quite might against pneumococcal diseases.

Their new vaccine, Prevnar 13, targets the original 7 strains, as well as 6 new strains.

Results of the study have shown that Prevnar 13 is just as effective as the original vaccine, but works against more strains.

They will seek FDA approval for the new vaccine in Q1 of 2009.
