Has anyone tried Limbrel or equivalent for relief of osteoarthritis?

December 10, 2008

(ChattahBox) Let’s start by saying this is not meant as a promotional article, but to inform (a little) and reach out to our community to see if anyone that has tried this product, and can offer their experience.

Limbrel is a prescription medication used to treat inflammation. Limbrel is not a NSAID, nor a COX-2 selective inhibitor. This FDA approved medication is known as a “botanical medical food.” Limbrel is made from the bark and root extracts of two botanicals. The medication is an a class of substances called flavonoids, and works by inhibiting enzymes that cause inflammation.

The exciting part about Limbrel is that it does not appear to have the significant side-effects seen with other types of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. In particular, Limbrel appears to be safe in elderly patients, and in patients who have a history of stomach ulcers. These patients often could not take other medications for arthritis–now Limbrel may present a reasonable option.

It’s perhaps a nice alternative to many of the ‘toxic’ medications offered for the relief of osteoarthritis .  It is quite pricey though and there is no generic on the market right now. Schiff has a version of their Move Free supplement that has flavonoids (Uniflex Proprietary Extract) in a smaller dosage.  We would love to hear about your experience with Limbel or one of the supplements that contain the flavonoid – bark extracts.

I love Limbrel. No side effects noticed. It just takes the edge off the pain from the osteoartritis in my wrists hands and fingers. It’s not a magic cure BUT it makes my court reporting job manageable. As a side, Limbrel does not cause me to feel lethartic and “puffed up/weight gain” as I experienced with the Lyrica. Limbrel is my star!

I have lived with pain from osteoarthritis for over 20 years. It started with my spine and spread to my knees ankles shoulders elbows and hands. The pain made me tired and unable to do daily tasks. I read an add about the Dr Max Powers ‘Joint Support with Vitamin B’ and thought I would give it a try because the daily regimine of pain medicines and nsaids were not giving me relief.

I felt better the first week after the first dose. I purchased the dr max formula and cannot believe how much better I feel. The Dr Max Powers Joint Support with Vitamin B is worth the price because it actually works, I have not felt this good for a long time. I firmly believe in this product. The pain has diminished and the stiffness is almost completely gone. I sleep better also which has been difficult because getting in a comfortable position was nearly impossible. Now I lay down and fall fast asleep.

I have been on Limbrel for the last 6 months and it has been a miracle drug for my arthritis. Then I started noticing that I was gaining more and more weight. I have not changed my eating habits and I have always been thin, but I have gained 30 pounds since I have been on the Limbrel.

I have been unable to really find much information about weight gain and Limbrel. My pain has returned, but I cannot keep gaining weight at this pace. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone that is experiencing the same weight gain on Limbrel could let me know.
