Swine Flu Vaccine To Begin Distribution In October

July 10, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – The US government has announced that they will be releasing the first set of 100 million vaccinations for swine flu in the fall, which will mainly be used for school-age children.  The announcement is hedged with the caveat that tests scheduled to begin in August must prove that the vaccine is safe and effective.

Pregnant women, young children under school age but over 6 months old, and health care workers are also expected to receive the first doses, SF Gate reported.

The next set of doses, which will be capable of covering most of the rest of the population, will be released in later fall to early winter.

The government hopes that the country will be vaccinated against the H1N1 strain by the beginning of next year.  The news comes as Obama administration warned Americans on Thursday to be ready for an aggressive return of the swine flu virus in the fall.
