Man Who Received Double Hand Transplant Is Hopeful Of Success

July 17, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – The first man to ever receive a double hand transplant has been able to move his fingers after the operation, and has high hopes for both functionality, and regaining some of his senses of touch.

Jeff Kepner received the transplant back in May, and has been hopeful ever since that he will once again be able to touch his wife and daughter, as well as regain some of his independence that was lost, after a bacterial infection took both of his hands.

“One of the first things she said, is, ‘Oh boy, you can cook again!’” he was quoted as telling the Daily Mail, after they asked about his wife’s reaction.

But the battle is not over yet. The operation is still an experimental one, and while the signs so far are positive, Dr. W.P Andrew Lee, who performed the operation, has warned that it is still to early to tell if the transplant was a success.

But Kepner isn’t giving up hope.

“The first thing I want to do is hold my wife’s hand, hold my daughter’s hand -and cook again. It sounds silly, but those are the things I want to get back to.”
