The Caribbean monk is also known as the West Indian monk seal was the last subtropical seal to live in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.

One has not been seen in nearly 50 years, as the population was killed off due to over-hunting.

The time has officially run out for the Caribbean monk, as scientists are giving up hope that they will ever find one again.
