It is common knowledge that Mars is about half the size of Earth. Not much is known though as to why it is formed the way it is.

The northern part of Mars appears very different from the South. In the past scientists have stated that a volcano could have caused this, but studies now state otherwise.

One of the studies had scientists using gravity observation to remove any type of volcanic deposits on the red planet.

This revealed an area where it was obvious that Mars was hit with an impact which caused a whole to stretch over 6,000 miles. The hole was smooth, and elliptical, likely from an asteroid. Cracks were noticed on the other half of Mars as well.

The shape of the hole was smooth and elliptical according to the study.

If proven true, Mars would have been hit the hardest out of any planet in our solar system’s history.
