The Large Hadron Collider was turned on, as a beam of protons was sent along its 17-mile tunnel.

The particle collider was developed by scientists at CERN, or the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

This is being dubbed as the biggest science experiment in history, and is aimed to reveal a great deal about the history of our universe.

Scientsits believe that they will be able to basically re-create the Big Bang and better understand our origins.

Many were fearful that the Large Hadron Collider could spell our doom, as the CERN scientists received death threats, trying to get them to not power it up.

All has gone well though, as the road ahead looks promising for the Large Hadron Collider.
