Did Reptiles Once Walk On Water?

December 20, 2008

Netherlands (ChattahBox) – The theory that flying reptiles evolved by first walking on water is not a new one, and given the basilisk, ‘Jesus Christ’ lizard of Central America – a lizard which quickly runs across the water without sinking – it has always been considered a possibility.

Because all fossils of birdlike reptiles have been found in one place, a tropical ocean with no traces of ancient tree pollen, it would seem that there had never been any trees, forests, or mountainous bluffs that would have been the natural habitat of these creatures.

This realization has led John Vidler, a researcher at the University or Groningen, to give a theory that rather then flying to catch prey, these early flying reptiles actually ran across the beaches to catch their food.

Because of that past theorized creature, and the evolution of the basilisk, it has led some researchers to believe that they originally evolved from a dinosaur that could use it’s feather-covered arms to propel itself across the surface of water. Eventually, those arms would have evolved into wings.

This is called the ‘Jesus Christ Dinosaur Theory’, and while it’s intriguing, and Vidler is convinced he is correct, sadly, not every scientist agrees.

“I think it’s fair to say, probably no one else thinks it’s a very likely scenario,” East Kentucky University biologist Professor Gary Richison commented on the matter.

This is awesome! Though I don’t agree with the evolution part, this is still really cool! I’m a creationist, so I don’t agree with evolution, because of the overwhelming evidence that it isn’t true. If you want see why I believe this, go to icr.org, go to the button “show me evidence,” under home, then go to button “evidence for creation.”
    Thanks, NK
