Man-Made Lifeforms Coming Soon?

February 20, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – Talk about real life following (science) fiction. Scientists are optimistic about a new kind of science: the creation of life, which may be possible within the next decade.

According to researchers, a small group of scientists from all over the world are close to revealing A breakthrough in the creation of protocells, which could offer us a new look into how the universe was created, a huge step in evolutionary theory.

“It’s going to be a big deal and everybody’s going to know about it,” Mark Bedau, of the company ProtoLife, commented.

“We’re talking about a technology that could change our world in pretty fundamental ways — in fact, in ways that are impossible to predict.”

Researchers are hopeful that such creations, expected within three to ten years, will pave the way for the creation of man-made lifeforms, which can do anything from curing diseases, to offering further work in stem cell research, to cleaning up the environment by eating toxic waste and gases.

Critics are saying that such a creation could become a major problem if the lifeforms begin to take over the human race. But Bedau says that concept is ridiculous, and very far fetched.

“When these things are created, they’re going to be so weak, it’ll be a huge achievement if you can keep them alive for an hour in the lab. But them getting out and taking over, never in our imagination could this happen.”

Hey, what could possibly go wrong?
