India Demands Global Support For Solar Energy Plan

August 5, 2009

India (ChattahBox) – India has decided to go forward with their ambitious plans for creating 20GW of solar power by 2020. But the bill will be footed by everyone else.

The plan would make India the single largest producer of working solar energy in the world, with more than 75% of the global projections over the next ten years being generated there.

It is all a part of India’s plan to lower their carbon emissions, while developing their largely underdeveloped country. This is especially true, as the majority of the nation has no access to regular (or sometimes any) electricity.

But a part of the plan is that richer nations, which are usually the largest fossil fuel users on a global scale, will be responsible for coming up with the money for the plan.

“In order to achieve its renewable energy targets, the Indian government expects international financing as well as technology at an affordable cost,” TERI researcher Leena Srivastava was quoted by The Guardian.

No one yet knows how much the project itself will cost, though the bill is expected to be high.

Plans are set to be discussed at the climate change summit in Copenhagen this year.

India “expects international financing as well as technology at an affordable cost,” huh?

I can “expect” the Rockefellers to fund my purchase of a new all-electric car, too. Expect in one hand and expectorate in the other, and see which one gets wet.

    Bloody cheek.
