Defending champion Rafael Nadal withdraws from Wimbledon

June 19, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Defending champion and world number one tennis player, Rafael Nadal has been forced to withdraw from next week’s Wimbledon Championships because of on-going tendinitis in his knees.  It’s a huge disappointment on many levels, as fans looked forward to a potential Wimbledon rematch between Rafael and five-time champion Roger Federer, who is seeking a record-breaking 15th Grand Slam title. Nadal, the world No. 1 withdrew from the tournament this afternoon at a press conference in London.

”I’ve played with problems in my knees for some months, and I am not 100 percent fit to play,” Nadal said at a news conference. “To not play Wimbledon is one of the toughest decisions of my career. Sportsmen always play with pain. You never know where the limit is. I have some time now to recover and will work very hard to return as soon as possible.”

Nadel traveled to London earlier this week and played two exhibition matches to see if he was ready. He said his knees had been bothering him since the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne in late March.

To me, wimbeldon 2009 has nothing to offer. I am greatly disappointed as Rafa is not playing. It has been a kind of habit for every one to watch rafa play federer in dream finals of grand slams and specially of Wimbeldon. Rafa Federer Match at wimbeldon is always great. This year, I have not watched a single match of wimbeldon, I am just getting updates of the tournament.
