French Tennis Pro Mathieu Montcourt Dead At Age 24

July 7, 2009

France (ChattahBox) – French tennis player, Mathieu Montcourt, has been found dead in his Paris apartment.  The 24-year-old who currently is 119th in the ATP rankings, but had recently been banned from playing matches after it was found that he had been betting on them, though never his own.

Montcourt had originally fought against the decision, as he had only bet a few dollars per match, and felt the eight week ban was harsh and unnecessary, the AP reports. His sentence was reduced to five weeks, but was still to be upheld.

Authorities are not certain of the cause of Montcourt’s death, but an autopsy will be performed later this week, and results are expected to be released then.
