Plaxico Burress Pleads Guilty in Gun Case – Gets 2-year Prison Sentence

August 20, 2009

New York (ChattahBox) — Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who accidentally shot himself in the leg at a Manhattan nightclub last year, has pleaded guilty to a gun charge and faces a two year prison sentence. A grand jury previously voted to indict Burress, 31, after he appeared on July 29 to ask for compassion after admitting his mistakes.

However his Hail Mary pass failed to connect and he was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and one count of reckless endangerment in the second degree. If he had been convicted following a trial, he would have faced from 3 1/2 years to 15 years in prison for each gun count. The maximum sentence for reckless endangerment is one year. With reduced time for good behavior, Burress could be free in as little as 20 months.

I think Goodell has done a terrific job suspending players, and it has happened so much the last 2 years I think the young guys will start to take note, hopefully.
