NY Jets to Name Rookie Mark Sanchez as Starting Quarterback

August 26, 2009

(ChattahBox) — NY Jets coach Rex Ryan is expected to announce that 2009 first round pick Mark Sanchez has won the competition to start for the Jets at quarterback when he addresses the news media on Wednesday at 2 p.m. today.  Sanchez had been competing with Kellen Clemens for the starting job.  Jay Glazer at foxsports.com reported that Ryan informed the quarterbacks Wednesday morning of the decision to start Sanchez.  The Jets traded up to take the former USC star with the fifth pick in the NFL draft in April.  Sanchez struggled early in his preseason start at Baltimore on Monday night, but threw a touchdown pass to Leon Washington to cap his final series.
