Foreign Bid Confirmed For NJ Nets Takover By Russian Billionaire

September 23, 2009

Russia (ChattahBox) – Mikhail Prokhorov, the richest man in Russia, has confirmed his bid for the New Jersey basketball team, the Nets.

Prokhorov has happily stated that it will be the first time a foreign party has owned an NBA club, should his bid be accepted and he takes control of the team.

“For our Onexim group the realization of this very lucrative business project, whose participation was made possible by the world crisis [never in history have foreigners owned an NBA club], is another interesting sports development,” the billionaire was quoted as writing in an official statement.

A rumored $700 million has been named for the bid, though no one is confirming that number. It would be a significant increase on the estimated $295 million of the team’s current value as the 26th most valuable team in the NBA.
