NFL Players Union to Rush Limbaugh: Take Your Hatred and Discrimination and Go Home!

October 12, 2009

(ChattahBox)—The news that the controversial shock jock of hate, Rush Limbaugh is interested in purchasing the St. Louis Rams football team, sparked outrage and condemnation; first from individual NFL players and now from the head of the NFL Players Association.

DeMaurice Smith, executive director of the NFL players union sent an email of opposition to the association’s executive committee, detailing his reasons for objecting to the purchase of the St. Louis Rams, by purveyor of hate, Rush Limbaugh.

According to a report from ESPN, DeMaurice Smith voiced his opposition to Rush Limbaugh’s bid to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and then fired off a strongly worded email to the player’s union executive committee, rejecting Limbaugh’s hate mongering.

“I’ve spoken to the Commissioner [Roger Goodell] and I understand that this ownership consideration is in the early stages. But sport in America is at its best when it unifies, gives all of us reason to cheer, and when it transcends. Our sport does exactly that when it overcomes division and rejects discrimination and hatred,” wrote Smith.

Last week, The New York Daily News interviewed several active NFL players, asking for a response to the news that hate talk radio host Rush Limbaugh was bidding for the Rams. New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott, was quoted as saying, “He’s a jerk. … He could offer me whatever he wanted, I wouldn’t play for him.”

Rush Limbaugh has long been known for making racist remarks. He was forced to resign as an NFL commentator for ESPN in 2003, after voicing a racist comment about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

“I think what we’ve had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well,” Limbaugh said. “There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn’t deserve. The defense carried this team,” said Limbaugh.

Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh is apparently going forward with his bid to purchase the Rams. He has joined forces with St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts to submit a bid, as part of a group of six potential bidders.

Let’s see now, we have an NFL players association telling us that even though they have a foul-mouthed part owner in Miami that Rush isn’t wanted. Talk about double standard. Oh, I;m sorry, that part owner just happens to be black so it is ok by the players associations standards or lack thereof.
And McNabb isn’t that good and Rush was right. McNabb is just as inconsistent as Romo!!
