Microsoft believes this is a sign that the Xbox 360 has won the next-gen console war, as the Xbox 360 hit this sales mark before both the Wii and PS3.

The latest NPD sales figures have the the Nintendo Wii at 8.8 million units sold, and with the PS3 at 4.1 million units sold in the U.S.

Nintendo still leads the global sales race with the Wii.

Much of the recent Xbox 360 success can be attributed to the big sales of Grand Theft Auto IV, which also caused sales of the Sony PS3 to surge.
