Facebook Turns Down Date With Google Friend Connect

The Google Friend Connect service was announced last week by Google and would allow a Facebook user to access their profile, among other information, on any Web site which supported Google Friend Connect.

This would seemingly allow Facebook users to update their information without actually having to go to the Facebook site. Facebook is dead against this though as they argue that this poses major privacy and security issues to its users.

Facebook engineer Charlie Cheever wrote in a blog post that “We’ve found that Google Friend Connect redistributes user information from Facebook to other developers without users’ knowledge, which doesn’t respect the privacy standards our users have come to expect and is a violation of our Terms of Service.”

Google has stated that there is no privacy issue, as the only thing Google Friend Connect does is gives users of Facebook and other social-networking sites more power over their data.
